I'm still in the hospital after emergency surgery a week ago.

What products have ostomy folks used to protect their bedding from unexpected leaks, thank you for any recommendations

Hello dski46.  I have a mattress pad that supposely prevents leaks. What I did was bought a shower curtain, which you can get it from the dollar store.  I put it under my fitted sheet, then I bought disposables pads and put it over the fitted sheet. So when you go to bed your laying on the disposable pad. If you should have an accident just dispose of the pad. Most likely it wont make it through the sheet, if somehow the leak is that bad, the shower curtain is there. Hope this helps. I’m sure someone else will chime in. Good Luck!  Angelicamarie

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

wall mart sell a bed cover that you can put on your bed to prevent leaks from making to your bed its just like the ones you put on a babybed they dont make as much sound as you would think i had  bought two of them so whn one needed washing i had the other to put on i have a queen size bed they were about 40 bucks i think dont quote but close

the only problem with them is after you wash them a couple times and then the dryer destorys the plastic so just hang dry them they will last longer

For when I travel I use something I made. I use a king size pillow case, I cut a piece of mattress pad and a sheet of plastic to match the pillow case then pin them together and insert them into the pillow case. Use it plastic side down. At home I use a sheet protector under the fitted sheet.

I purchased some disposalable pads from Medical Supply (Vitality Medical) that work really well while staying at freinds or even for hotels.  Penguins7
