Finding Hope and Healing After Surgery

This topic is about finding hope and healing after undergoing ostomy-related surgery. It shares a personal story of someone who has lived with an ostomy for 34 years due to Crohn’s disease. They experienced severe pudendal-nerve pain following surgery, but after months of suffering, the pain has almost disappeared. This change has allowed them to reduce their use of long-term narcotics, feel less anxious and stressed, and start to feel alive again. Although they still find wearing an ostomy pouch unpleasant, the relief from constant pain has renewed their hope. They want to encourage new ostomates by saying that life can improve, and healing is possible.

Here are some pieces of advice and insights shared by others:

1. Patience and perseverance are key. Chronic pain, drug dependence, and adapting to an ostomy can be overwhelming, but improvements and brighter days are possible. It's important to "hang in there."

2. Offers for personal support are available. Some members are open to direct communication, offering to share practical tips and support, especially for those who have undergone similar surgeries or treatments.
