Living with Crohn's: My Journey and Seeking Connection

This topic is about someone who has been living with Crohn's disease since they were 10 years old and has had an ostomy for 33 years. Despite their long journey, they have never met other ostomates in person and recently decided not to attend a local support group due to shyness. They describe themselves as shy in public but outgoing with close friends. They live alone on a 20-acre farmhouse, enjoy a simple life connected to nature, and have a variety of interests including outdoor activities, cultural events, and running a private non-profit animal rescue. After past relationships, they are open to companionship but also value their private time. They are considering taking in a housemate, possibly another ostomate, but have put this idea on hold for now. They have survived several severe Crohn’s flare-ups and remain determined to enjoy life.

Here are some pieces of advice and insights shared by others:

1. Many people admire the poster’s strength and positive attitude, encouraging them to continue fighting and reminding them that they are not alone. There are many who refuse to let Crohn’s or an ostomy dictate their lives.

2. A long-term ostomate, who has also never met other ostomates locally, shares their experience and offers solidarity and gratitude.

3. Members point out that the originator’s story is an inspiring example of living life to the fullest despite dealing with a chronic illness.
