Help! Scar tissue won't stick - any solutions?

This topic is about finding solutions for an ostomy wafer that won't stick properly to scar tissue around a stoma. If you're facing this issue, here are some helpful tips and products that might make a difference:

- Consider using Skin Tac adhesive, available as wipes or liquid, before applying the wafer. It's known for enhancing adhesion and can be found through suppliers like Edgepark.

- Explore Coloplast products:
- The Sensura standard range is praised for its good adhesion, even on uneven skin.
- Sensura Mio is designed for challenging surfaces like scar tissue and hernias. It's currently available in a closed pouch version, but you can contact Coloplast for samples and updates on a drainable version.

- Reinforce the wafer's outer edge with strong medical tape, especially where it crosses a scar or deep skin crease.

- Try repositioning the pouch slightly to avoid placing the main adhesive area directly over scar tissue. This might require some trial and error.

- A layering method that has worked for some involves:
1. Wiping the area with a skin-protectant barrier wipe.
2. Placing a small, flat "washer"-style ring seal (sticky on one side) around the stoma, about 1.5 inches (4 cm) out.
3. Applying the wafer over the ring and surrounding skin.

- Use a double-coat of liquid skin barrier: apply one layer, let it dry completely, then add a second layer over the incision or scar, ensuring it covers all folds and crevices.

- For tender spots under the tape, cut the wafer’s outer tape to avoid the sore area. Cover the spot with a small Telfa pad and tape it down until it heals.
