Hi

I've been prescribed Amitriptyline for facial pain. Does anyone here with an ileostomy take Amitriptyline? I am nervous to use it as constipation is listed as a side effect. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Hello Doreen

I have recently started on escitalopram for anxiety, but it is giving me some unwanted side effects. My doctor has said that if I cannot tolerate this, then I can try amitriptyline instead. To be honest, anything that firms up the motion would be greatly appreciated.

I think most antidepressants/anxiety meds have constipation/diarrhea as a side effect, but I think it affects everyone differently.

This site has been a blessing for me in learning how to cope with and navigate this journey as an ostomate. I have a colostomy as a result of a perforation in my colon since May of this year. I don't know yet if it will be permanent or reversible. The people on here have provided me with so much advice and information about living with an ostomy that I don't think I could get anywhere else. You all have given me hope and a place to come to for support. I still struggle with acceptance, but know that it will come if I am patient. Patience has never been my strong suit! Also, I love all the humor, although it really pissed me off when I first came on here. Thanks to all of you.

Just to be safe, take a dose of Miralax in the morning; it should help. I need to take it due to all the pain meds I take, and it helps me.

Please check to see if the medication you speak of is for the use you say it is. I took it for a while years ago and it wasn't for pain!

I took amitriptyline for pain relief and it did not affect my ileostomy.
