I have used, from the get-go, a baggie to cover the clipped end of the appliance. Even with a really good clip, those "fluids" can be tenacious. So I slip a plain old baggie (no zip lock) over the clip end. I worked as a legal secretary/assistant for 40 years in the rarefied environment of the law firm and never experienced a leak that was not contained. Give it a try. It worked and still works for me!

Hi All, If you have an " old" or recent ostomy, this is the place for you. I think I've been a member for more than 15 years, but I have had my surgery, since I was a kid of 15 ( do the math-that's more than 60 years ago). As a teen, with a new ostomy ( for Ulcerative colitis) my parents dragged me off to my first ostomy association meeting. I wasn't happy, but in the long run, it's the best thing that happened to me. I met others, older, and teens like me, adjusting to the changes. A group of us started a Young adult group, and helped each other, and even visited kids who were new to the world of ostomies. But soon I married, and moved out of state, and although made some connections with other NJ ostomates, I became pretty much isolated. Until I discovered MaO. By then, I was having a myriad of other medical issues, and my aging stoma " wasn't doing well". I received a lot of help and support from members! I was pleased that I was also back to supporting others. I met a gal on line (from Papua New Guinea) who was trying to help ostomates in her country. There is a scarcity of supplies in some other countries, and unlike the US, insurance to pay for supplies isn't available. When my son followed his "love" twenty years ago, and moved to Australia I took advantage of an opportunity to help other ostomates. On one of my first visits to Oz, I brought a suitcase full of Ostomy supplies, handed them off to an Ostomy assoc. On the Gold Coast, who then had a friend take them to PNG. They were grateful for the help, and Janet and I still write.. This is the place to be, if you need help, and it also gives you the opportunity to provide help and support to others. The Peabody Method - I like it! So too may the Iggie clip add a level of security and also aid a loss of dexterity when applying pressure to Velcro closing.
Many ostomy nurses encourage patients, once emptied, to fold a piece of toilet paper and just catch the INSIDE of the cleaned emptied bag before rolling up/closing - thereby reducing the likelihood of a seepage stain on underwear or one's skin.
Others wear decorative covers over their bags - similar to the 'Peabody' double containment.

Yes, remember those old plastic slam-down clips? I always had to carry a spare in case I dropped it down the toilet, as I often did. I had to be so careful when emptying the bag to make sure I cleaned the outlet within an inch of its life. It was such a relief when Velcro closure bags came out.

You might also try folding one square of toilet paper into a rectangle and placing it in between the folds as you close up the end of your pouch. Just close as normal and flush it away with the liquid the next time you empty. No more drips! 😁

This is the IGGIE CLIP, and you can glue a small magnet to it to hold it closed and safer. I fold the end over a couple of times or more to shorten the bag.

I would have thought the same as to why the tailpiece is leaking, but a couple of weeks ago when I went to empty it, I noticed a very small tear next to the Velcro at the top of the tailpiece, like the plastic part had cut into the bag edge (I use Hollister), which was just starting to leak. First time I've had this happen; I assume it was a manufacturing defect, and fortunately, the rest of that batch of bags has been fine.

I've also always used Hollister, and this is the first time that this has happened. Previously, I have had a pinhole in the bag itself, but a couple of malfunctions in 16 years isn't too bad. I still maintain that the quality of the bags has deteriorated over the years; they used to be made of a really sturdy, stronger plastic. Now they are a bit like a sandwich bag!
I have read similar stories on here about the quality of all brands of ostomy products.

I have a really high liquid output, so I do.
Normally, if I have a leak, it comes from the bottom of the flange.

That's understandable, but the bottom of your flange isn't the same as the end of the bag where it drains out.

I use Coloplast that fastens with Velcro. In 5 years, I've never had a leak from the bottom of the bag. When I empty my output, I always have a wad of toilet paper ready to wipe the end clean before refastening the Velcro.
PS. I don't comment much, but I always read everyone's posts. No offense intended to other members, but I first always turn to yours and Beachboy's.
