Has anyone found a good butt cushion after having a Barbie butt surgery? When I get out of the hospital and back to somewhat of a normal life, I'd like to be able to attend my church again, but we have hard metal chairs to sit on, and I've been trying to look for a good butt cushion. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd love to hear them. Thank you.

Hi.. welcome.

The thought regarding a safe cushion means not to stretch butt cheeks when sitting like you used to on a toilet.

So no donut-type cushion.

What I used was homemade.

I just kept thinking, "how to keep cheeks close, not parted."

Some others will chime in with their best recommendations.

Sitting in a "V" type of cushion would be ideal.

Two rolled-up towels under the sides of each cheek worked for me.

You might need to bring a special chair to church.

Well,  I  hit the two year mark. I went back and read my posts from when I first found this site. I was very fortunate in that I stumbled upon it only 4 weeks post op. I have said many times that this community really saved me. The first 2 weeks after my surgery I shut down completely. It wasn't until about the 3rd week that my son came in to my room, flicked on the light and told me I was going to have to get back to living because I was scaring him. I had fallen into such a depression.  He  ticked me off,  but it also made me stop and think- what was I going to do? Feel sorry for myself and sulk, or be grateful I was alive.

I've re-read my journals from that time and it was after my son kicked my butt, so to speak, I took an honest inventory and had to dig deeper than I've ever had to. I mean, I had survived a pretty nasty divorce, after a pretty crappy marriage and that was tough. But this was different. I felt like I was now a handicapped person who would be limited in their life and be looked at as a freak. My mental state was precarious, at best.

But then I found this site. I just lurked a bit before posting. I read so many of the other stories and I started to see just how full my life can be, I was not handicapped,  and certainly not a freak! The stories of survival, the sense of humor, the support and compassion was inspiring.  It was then I made myself get out of the dark, and get my sh*t together.

Not all rainbows and sunshine at first, hardly! But with grace from myself - to myself, and the kindness and willingness of the folks here to be supportive, non judgemental and openly share intimate details about their life circumstances,  l not only survived but thrived.

I think of all the years I had suffered with such extreme pain, barely functioning,  and the many hospital stays and how that is all behind me now.  (All fingers, toes, and legs crossed that I never have to go near a hospital for myself ever again. I think I'd rather have a fork stuck in my eye. I loathe every about them.)

So, to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me, to say thank you is not enough. I'm forever grateful to know you all.  My Angels, each one of you.

And as the Grateful Dead famously said,

"what a long strange trip it's been!"

Im so happy I'm tripping with you all.

Gel cushion

A thick (4 inches or more) piece of memory foam if you want to make your own. Or they make cushions specifically for butt surgeries that you can get. No donut 🍩 style cushion with any sort of hole because it will put added pressure where you were sewn shut.

Purple seat cushions from purple.com

They were recommended to me in rehab. Pricey, but I wouldn't be without mine.

I didn't have the Barbie butt surgery, but I was having significant tailbone pain, and this made a huge difference.

Do you know the name of the cushions or where I can buy one?

Do you know what the specific cushion is called or where I might buy one?

After having my Barbie butt, I used a normal pillow when traveling in the car and sitting in the doctor's office. It worked the best for me.

I was given one like this from my hospital. You only inflate it about halfway so it adjusts to your butt and isn't “hard” to sit on.

My WOCN gave me a waffle cushion, partially inflated. It's absolutely the best thing, and I highly recommend it. I used it at home and took it when I went out, in the car, and even to restaurants. They are more readily available than when I had my surgery in 2012. They are on Amazon, and I even saw some on the Walmart site. Just type in "waffle cushion" when you do a search. I think mine is 16 or 17 inches square. Wishing you the best. You're smart to be looking now.

I just remembered when I got mine, the only place I could find them online was ehob.com, I believe.

Thank you. I'll keep your suggestion in mind. It's just I'm a bigger woman and would be afraid to pop the inflatable cushions.

Hi, not sure it's the thing for use immediately after surgery, but I was gifted a silicone honeycomb gel cushion, and it works pretty well for me when I'm using outdoor furniture. They're not expensive and are readily available on Amazon. They seem to be a generic design.

A soft cushion that fits on your chair or car seat is quite comfortable.

Valley Cushion was loaned to me by my hospital in the UK - week 8 from surgery now and my “throne” travels everywhere with me.

My "barbie butt" is almost healed. I'm about two and a half months out from my surgery. I just need it for car rides and church.

I just had the BB surgery a month ago. The hospital gave me the waffle. Not a great choice. When in the passenger seat of a car, I used a fluffy, larger, round pillow. I think I bought it from Walmart. You'll need a soft and fluffy, fall-into-me kind of pillow.
For driving, once able, I used a microfiber chair cushion, also from Walmart.

Very helpful

For me, a blow-up waffle cushion is just about perfect. I keep one on my chair at the dining table, one on my computer chair, and one in my car. When I go out, I just grab whichever one is closest, deflate it, and stuff it in my bag. When I use it at the other end, I just blow it up to the amount of cushion I need.

I don't think you'll have a problem popping the cushion; you only inflate it partially. Good luck to you.

That's right. If you blow it up too much, it's not even comfortable to sit on. I have been using these for nearly two years with never a pop or leak.

I never heard of purple before. I'm going to try it for my recliner. Thanks, Susan.
