I am searching for the best way to secure my urostomy pouch when cycling. I have looked at various websites, but I am not sure what the best method is, e.g., wraps?

Any thoughts on what the best way to do this is?

I'd think a belt or a wrap would be sufficient.  But hold on, I'm sure beachboy will be along soon and he bicycles all the time.

Hi - I use a one-piece SenSura from Coloplast that comes with a belt. Also use the Y shaped barrier extenders and Tommy Hilfiger boxer briefs. This set-up has worked well for many years whether cycling, hiking or fly-fishing. Best, Bryce

I wear an ostomy secrets standard wrap, occasionally with a compression tank top over the wrap. Usually the wrap alone is enough to keep the pouch stable and close to my body. I have an ileostomy that's higher than some, about 2" above my belly button so wraps are better for me. Stealth belts or belts similar to them are worth looking into also.

I am not familiar with urostomies; the little I know, I learned from Susan. Is the urostomy pouch located on the abdomen similar to colostomy/ileostomy? 🤔 Any other considerations unique to a urostomy appliance? 🤔

Urostomies are very similar to ileostomies except the obvious. They usually sit on the right of the abdomen and they fill quickly with heavy liquid output.

So even if he empties it before the bike ride, it will likely get heavy.  I wouldn't dare do it without at least a wrap. I'm partial to my support belt but that might be individual preference

What is the best support belt to buy? I, too, bike—and I don't want to have any leaks. Thanks!

I can't say what is best. I have 2 ostomies and require a custom belt. The one I'm using is linked below. I like it very much, and I think it is probably similar to a stealth belt. I tried to get a stealth belt, but they do not return contact emails or answer the phone, so I gave up. I ordered another belt from Nu Hope, but it was incorrectly made and is currently being fixed. I had no opportunity to wear it. Others here swear by these belts, and my problem was related to the customization, not the belt itself.

I don't bike right now (my health is too poor), but knowing how heavy my urostomy pouch gets and how quickly it fills, I'd think you'd be happier with a belt like mine or a simple wrap like the ones from Ostomy Secret than the Nu Hope belt because these support the bag itself and not just the flange. If you want to go with the Nu Hope belt for hernia support, I'd add a wrap to support the bag while biking. But this is an educated guess, not personal experience.

PS they make single hole belts too. For those poor folks who weren't blessed with 2 ostomies. 🤣

I am one of the poor souls that was not blessed with two ostomies. Thanks for your compassion, Susan. 🤣🤣

Before the ostomy, I did suffer with two completely unmanageable fistulas. 😭

I do have an unmanageable fistula in addition to my two ostomies.

Sorry to brag. 🤣

Fistulas are the worst.

I bike and I wear Spanx under my shorts—the support of the Spanx holds everything in place. My longest ride since surgery (urostomy) was 30 miles. I stopped twice to use the restroom. In addition to the silly putty ring, I bought surgical tape, and every time I change bags, I tape around the bandage for insurance—and it's been great!

Are you talking about an upright (traditional) bicycle? If so, bicycling shorts should be sufficient to stop it from flopping around. If you are riding a recumbent, knit boxers work well. I have never had a problem in 40 years.
