I'm a simi new Ostomate as of Oct 2008, so this is my first summer having it. I was wondering since I love amusment parks and the rides at them. I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the restraints and the jerking motions of some rides?? Let me know please I'd love to go ride hopping

Hi Quietdreamer28,  I Spent a weekend at a large amusement park last summer.  It was very hot and we rode every crazy ride there was.  I had no problems at all.  I made sure I had a new wafer put on the day before.  It was a little work and planning during the day but it all was great.  I tried not to eat a whole lot and I take a daily supplement for gas that helps alot.  Don't drink soda!!!!  Also I did wear a fanny pack so I could have extra bags etc.  I wear closed end pouches because I cant stand it unless they are spotless.  Also they have filters for gas and the newer the better the filter works.  We even went in the hot tub at night and did more rides the next day.  You just have to remember that some lines can take up to an hour to get to the ride.  But if you have to go to the restroom just leave the line and have your friend save your place.  I had a long wait in one line and I debated going to the bathroom but didn't, maybe I should have because it was more full than I would have liked.  Nothing happened though.  I must say that I rarely have a problem with leakage since I got my colostomy.  My Iliostomy was terrible!!!!  Any leakage I have had is usually my error in clipping the bag on tight.  I hope this helps.

MeetAnOstoMate website turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I say this because, for me, this ostomy journey was a devastating event both physically and mentally.
Here, I found folks who understood my feelings even better than my family or friends could. Only a fellow ostomate can understand how you really feel.

Information sharing is key, as well as support and understanding, to ultimately bring more harmony into our ostomy life journey. I found here, virtually no ostomy questions that are not touched upon. Questions which some might feel, may be too trivial to contact a doctor about or even too shy or embarrassed to ask their own doctor about. They are all addressed here.

For me, anonymity was very helpful in seeking answers to each phase of this life changing medical and mental event. Sharing initial trauma feelings, ongoing support and finally acceptance was what I found with my membership here. I am not sure what my mental and physical attitude would be today without having found this site.

Additional benefits included: finding products and ideas to help with daily maintenance, innovative ideas and as a bonus - some great humor.
After all โ€œlaughter IS the best medicineโ€.

I have been a member for 3 years, an ostomate for 4 years - yes, I certainly wish I would have found it immediately after surgery but so very thankful I finally found it when I did as I truly believe it turned my troubled depression and situation into a more positive attitude and acceptance.

Sincerely,
An Ileostomate nicknamed Justbreathe ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

That's good news, I didn't think about the full bag part but that really does make sense. Haha I guess it'd be a bad thing to go on a ride with a simi full to full bag and get jerked around and have an issue later on. Bringing extra bags is a good idea too, can't out rule the "just in case" bag.

last summer I took my two kids to Canada's Wonderland and I LOVE rollercoasters! However this was really my first time back since I got my ostomy and I personally found that most of the restraint bars that go across your hip/stomach area hit right on or really close to my stoma. I did go on a couple rides but after I went to the washroon I noticed my stoma bleeding from being banged. Needless to say I spent the rest of the day watching the boys go on the rides as I didn't want to cause any more damage to my stoma. I'm a very tiny person, I guess my size was just too small for the restraint bars.

Can't see it being any different for the male species (sorry if I'm wrong) , so I'll add that I've ridden every coaster and flume ride at Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World, Busch Gardens, the Disney Parks and Cypress Gardens and have not had any problems at all.

My last trip was only 5 months after my last surgery, but I do always secure the edges of my wafer with some mefix tape for an added sense of security. I don't know how many times the tape has saved an absolute blow out in other instances, but I really have not even come close to having a problem at the Parks.

Keep the pouch less than half full and with some minor adjustments to the way you're seated I cannot dream of you having any problems.

Have a great Summer and enjoy those Parks.
