I have found that if you put the skin protectant all around your skin where your wafer goes and not just around your stoma, your wafer will stick better to your skin. So if you have trouble getting your wafer to stick, try that out. Let the protectant dry a little and then apply the wafer. It will stick down better and give you a better seal.

So true - as long as allowed to dry fully prior to application of appliance.

Try using a hair dryer on a low setting to dry off the area around your stoma. You can also take this opportunity to warm up your barrier to aid adhesion.

My husband's ostomy nurse recommended the site two years ago. The help and recommendations they have given us is invaluable.

Bobwilson warming up the wafer. I do the same thing, and I make sure after it's on, I hold the wafer for a while, especially around the stoma, to make sure it's all stuck and sealed.

I use the hair dryer trick too and then sit for a good 15 minutes.

Being retired with time on my hands, after changing the whole works, I lie down in bed, put a heating pad over the stuff, and read for 15 minutes. Not as fast as the hair dryer … but I do get more reading done.

I use Hollister 2 piece with Coloplast Bravo sealing thingy. I go 7 days between complete changes, and I have to work at it to get everything off. No leaking.

Give it a try.

I can get 7 days' wear out of my appliance now too. It's great.

Right now I am changing everything every day. Mostly, no leak, but sometimes it's hard to get the appliance off and sometimes not. I get paranoid, especially when I don't have to fight to take it off. It makes me think it's not sticking enough. Work in progress, I guess. I tried something new today, so I'm seeing how it goes.

Are you using adhesive remover wipes or spray to get your wafer off?

Using adhesive remover wipes to remove the appliance.

I guess I'm expecting it to be plastered to my skin. It might be all mental, right? I'm just having a rough streak trusting anything to work.

If you can get the adhesive remover spray, it works way better than the wipes. And I'm sure you already are, warm your wafer up a little before putting it on, but not too much, and hold your wafer for a bit. If you are having adhesive issues, have you tried a different brand?

Why would you change if there is no leak?

Because I've actually had very slight leakage and only know it when I change it. This morning, I entertained trying to leave it on for one more day, but I took it off anyway. There was stool around the ring, and I had no itching.

It's frustrating.

Question: How are you cutting your wafer? It should be to the size and shape of your stoma.
