Urination frequency with ileostomy and overactive bladder - seeking advice on 'normal' levels

This discussion revolves around the frequency of urination for someone with an ileostomy and an over-active bladder, and what might be considered 'normal' in this situation. The person in question drinks about 76 ounces of mostly electrolyte fluids each day. They find themselves needing to urinate every 1½ to 2 hours during the day and about twice at night. Their urologist has suggested treatments like Botox injections or Medtronic InterStim neuromodulation, but they are curious if this frequency is actually typical given their fluid intake and ostomy.

Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

1. Many people with ileostomies experience similar urination patterns, especially when consuming large amounts of fluids. They often see this as normal rather than unusual.

2. One individual with an ileostomy drinks between 90 to 100 ounces of fluid daily, as recommended by their nephrologist. This is because ileostomies can increase the risk of dehydration. They previously experienced kidney issues when their intake was around 64 ounces a day. Their urination frequency is about every 3 hours.

3. For men, frequent urination can sometimes be linked to prostate issues, so it might be helpful to have a prostate evaluation.

4. The treatments suggested, such as Botox and Medtronic’s InterStim, are worth reconsidering. It's beneficial to discuss these options again with a healthcare provider after hearing about others' experiences.
