Frustrated by Delays in Medical Procedures

This topic is about someone who is feeling very frustrated and overwhelmed due to a long wait for a fistula repair surgery and constant issues with their ostomy appliance leaking. They were supposed to have an examination under anesthesia this month, but it has been postponed to September, which means the surgery might not happen until next year. This delay, along with frequent leaks that have caused severe skin irritation, has left them feeling like they've reached their limit.

Here are some pieces of advice and helpful insights for managing these challenges:

1. To make pouch removal less painful and protect your skin, try soaking or gently loosening the adhesive with warm water or using adhesive-removal sprays or wipes.

2. Take advantage of the expertise of stoma or ostomy nurses. They can provide valuable assistance in breaking the cycle of irritated skin leading to poor adhesion, which then causes more leakage and worsens the skin condition.

3. Keep in touch with your surgical team and express your need for an earlier appointment. Sometimes, being persistent can help you get an earlier cancellation slot.

4. If you have been exposed to environments where Lyme disease is possible, consider getting evaluated for it. Its symptoms can be similar to those of fibromyalgia and other systemic disorders.

5. Remember to seek moral support. Stay optimistic, accept help from friends and family, and keep in mind that there are always alternatives to giving up.
