Struggling with Stoma Rejection and Bad Days

This topic is about dealing with the emotional impact of being rejected by a potential partner because of having a stoma. The person sharing their experience usually feels comfortable with their stoma, but recent events, particularly being turned down by someone they liked, have left them feeling hurt and wishing for life before their surgery.

Here are some pieces of advice and insights that might help:

1. If someone rejects you because of your ostomy, they are not worth your time. A person who truly cares will appreciate your health and who you are as a person.

2. Keep things in perspective. Physical appearance and sexuality naturally change as we age. Long-term relationships are more about personality, companionship, and mutual respect.

3. It's normal to feel depressed, fearful, or vulnerable when dating after an ostomy. Many people have experienced break-ups and long periods without dating, but they emphasize that understanding partners do exist.

4. Remember, you are not alone. Many people with ostomies experience similar emotional ups and downs. Reaching out to supportive communities can help you regain your confidence.

5. Maintaining hope and patience is important. Finding a caring and empathetic partner may take time, but it can greatly improve your quality of life once you do.
