A TRICKY, STICKY SITUATION

This topic is about finding a good alternative to the discontinued Hollister 7730 stoma adhesive spray. The original product was a reliable "sticky spray" that helped keep stoma bags securely in place, but its sudden withdrawal has left users concerned about potential leaks and poor adhesion. For those with a latex allergy, many products are not suitable, so exploring silicone-based prosthetic adhesives has become a promising option. These adhesives, often used for artificial limbs and wigs, have shown to provide a similar hold without causing skin irritation. Here are some insights and advice based on initial trials:

- The first product tested was the G626 Probond Secure Adhesive. This is a pressure-sensitive medical silicone adhesive that comes in a low-odor silicone solvent. It maintains its grip even with moisture or perspiration. To use, apply a thin layer to either the skin or the baseplate, wait 2-3 minutes, and then press firmly. There is also a companion product, the G608 Probond Remover, available in a 30 ml bottle.

- Further tests and impressions include:
1. Probond offers "adequate" adhesion and is easy to apply.
2. WRATH PROS-aide II starts white and turns clear when it becomes tacky. It holds about as well as Probond on stoma baseplates.
3. FUSION Adhesive Barrier Applicator is made by ProSys International and distributed by www.independenceproducts.co.uk. It is a non-sensitizing, non-irritating combined barrier film and adhesive enhancer. It comes in single-use 1 ml sachets with a built-in applicator. This product seems to have stronger adhesive qualities but may be more expensive. It is currently available through NHS stoma nurses.

Further updates will be shared as more products are tested.
