Convex Coloplast Plus Doughnut???

This topic is about managing a receding stoma, specifically using a convex Coloplast barrier and a doughnut ring to help with the issue. A receding stoma can be challenging, but with the right tools and techniques, it can be managed effectively. Here are some insights and advice based on the experiences shared:

1. If you're using a convex barrier and still experiencing leaks or skin irritation, consider adding a thin barrier ring or doughnut. This can help create a better seal. Cut the ring to fit snugly around the stoma, then place the convex wafer over it.

2. Some people have found success using convex Hollister precut barriers along with a thin ring placed directly against the stoma. This combination can help reduce irritation and improve the fit.

3. If you notice that the stoma is partially covered by abdominal skin, try lifting the skin to allow the stoma to project better. This can improve the fit and function of your appliance.

4. When applying the system, make sure to press the doughnut ring firmly and run a finger around the stoma-barrier junction several times to ensure a good seal.

5. If you find it difficult to manipulate products with one hand, especially when dealing with frequent urine flow, practice stretching and placing the doughnut ring with one hand. It might take some time to get used to, but it can be done.

6. If you continue to have issues with leaks or application errors, or if the stoma is deeply recessed under abdominal folds, it might be helpful to consult an Enterostomal Therapist (ET/WOC nurse). They can provide personalized fitting and technique guidance to help you manage your stoma more effectively.
