Weird Pain Under Ribs - Seeking Advice on Symptoms and Relief

The topic is about experiencing pain under the ribs when you have an ostomy, and whether this could be due to gas, a blockage, or something else. Here's some advice and insights shared by others:

1. It's important to seek medical evaluation right away. If you're feeling pain around your ribs that gets worse when you breathe or move, it's best to see a doctor or visit the emergency room. Trying to figure it out online can be risky.

2. Signs of a typical blockage include severe cramps in the lower abdomen and little to no output from the stoma for 24 hours or more. Since you still have normal output and the pain is higher up under the ribs, a full blockage might be less likely, but it's still a serious possibility.

3. Other possible causes for the pain could be:
- Trapped gas, which can feel different after an ostomy.
- Gallstones.
- A narrowed bile duct that might need a stent.
- Pancreatitis, especially if your colon was removed or your pancreas was affected during surgery.
- Excess stomach acid or other gastrointestinal issues; keeping a healthy microbiome might help over time.

4. Someone who experiences frequent blockages advises that any suspected blockage should be checked out quickly.

5. A practical tip is that lying down might help release gas. However, if the pain continues after doing this, it's important to get a professional assessment.
