What does blockage feel like? I don't think that's the pain I'm feeling, since my output has been normal. I keep getting this weird pain under my ribs, last week it was on my left side, yesterday and today it's on the right side. When it first started yesterday, it didn't hurt as much, but as the day went on, it got worse and when I finally got home and was able to lay down, there was a lot of gas, I was having to burp my bag every 5 mins. After about 30-45 mins the gas stopped, but the pain is still there. It hurts to take deep breaths or sneeze, and it sometimes hurts to walk so I have to be careful with my steps.

If it's hurting to take a deep breath, hurting to walk, it's probably a good idea to check in with your doctor. It can't hurt, right?

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me.  The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience.  When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated.  Either way, it is a good site.

Sorry tn, but your question is like calling a mechanic after your car engine quits and asking him what's wrong with it. We'd need more info to help you out, but as the Crapster said......your best bet would be to have it checked out. We'd just be guessing, which is never a good thing. With that much pain something is very wrong, as your bowels can expand quite a lot before you feel pain. So if you're feeling the level of pain you're describing.......you're pushing your luck big time. Call the Doc.

I agree with getting it checked out if it doesn't go away. I have a new colostomy, and I have also experienced some weird pain that has lasted a day. In my experience, it has been gas - it hits me differently now, so I don't always recognize it for what it is. But definitely get checked out if it doesn't improve!

Please follow Jodie's advice and talk to your doctor. Or head to the emergency room. Was your colon removed? Was there any indication of damage to your pancreas? I developed pancreatitis about 6 weeks after my initial surgery. Not a pleasant experience. Obviously, I have no way of knowing what is going on with you, but your hospital should be able to tell you.

I agree with everyone else. Please go get that checked out. Better safe than sorry. You could be having some type of GI issue going on. Not to scare you, I had pain the way you're describing and found out my bile duct was narrow, so I needed a stent put in. I hope whatever it may be, it turns out to be okay. 🫂 💐

You may have gallstones, maybe a tummy acid problem. These days they seem to say it's all about keeping your microbiome in good health by feeding them what they want. You have to become their servants in effect! Haha, we are just traveling bug hotels!

I just had a partial blockage and my pain was off the charts. I only have my small intestine. My pain was more in my lower abdomen and felt like explosions were going off plus I didn't have any output for over 24 hours. I don't know why you have an ostomy. I have mine due to Crohn's and when I had that, I had diarrhea. The pain was very similar. Having pain under your ribs makes it sound like something else and best to go to a doctor to check it out. Fortunately, the blockage cleared on its own without needing surgery. Hope that helps and that you are feeling better.

I get a blockage almost every month. You need to get it checked out as blockages can be serious.
