Hollister Ostomy Bags - Tips for Opening Drainable Pouch?

This topic is about someone who prefers using Hollister drainable pouches but finds it difficult to open the tail outlet. They are looking for practical tips to make this process easier. Here are some helpful suggestions:

1. Create a permanent crease in the outlet. When the pouch is clean and flat, press the two ends of the tail together and fold them hard to create a sharp crease in the middle of both plastic lips. This crease helps the lips spring apart more easily when you need to empty the pouch.

2. Try this emptying technique:
- Place your thumb on one lip and your forefinger on the opposite lip, then push them in opposite directions to break the seal.
- Apply gentle pressure at the very ends of the plastic lips; they will slowly separate without causing any splattering.

3. If the output is thick or sticky, use the thumb-and-finger "opposite push" method to start opening the pouch before the bulk of the output moves.

4. After each emptying, re-fold the tail and reinforce the crease to keep it well-defined for the next time you need to open it.
