Hi everyone! I have a new problem🙄. I went for a colonoscopy to evaluate whether I am able to have a reversal of my colostomy. He was unable to do it through my stoma because it is too small to do with the equipment they had there and now I have to be rescheduled at the hospital where they have pediatric equipment. Has anyone out there experienced this!? Thanks for your help 😃

I have not had a colonoscopy since I got my colostomy, so no, but I did have my stoma surgically revised because it was very small and stenotic (which means scar tissue). Mine was probably tight to a small woman's pinky finger, so very small, and the scar tissue meant that it wasn't flexible. The end result of the revision is a much bigger stoma even though it is still recessed, and I am able to eat more things because I don't need to worry about things getting stuck so much. Maybe you need a revision?

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

You're not alone. Everyone is individual.

I never really gave much thought to my small frame until my surgeon explained to me that due to my petite size, I may need more precise instruments, such as pediatric size.

No big deal, really. It's simply safer to perform at the hospital where such equipment is available versus an office that has limited capabilities.

Best of luck on your journey.

I've had no problems with my post-colostomy colonoscopies. But I'm a good-sized woman... tall with a large frame.

It really doesn't matter that you are smaller. I'm sorry you have to do the prep again. I think that's the worst part of being rescheduled.

If it turns out you won't be reversed, then I agree with the suggestion of getting a stoma revision.

Yes, mine is also too small for any examination, and I am waiting on revision for surgery, but I am too malnourished at the moment for them to do it and just keep suffering in pain on output. But you are not alone with a small one.

Yes, thank you so much for that! If I am not able to have this reversed very soon, I will need a revision. I am starting to freak out about getting obstructed. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply. I am not petite, but I think it is more due to a stenotic stoma, as the previous osteomate suggested. I would much rather be petite!

Thank you, I know something needs to be done one way or another. It's just all so terribly frustrating!
