SLIMY, STINKING, BLOOD AND MUCUS

This topic is about dealing with a challenging situation involving a constant discharge of blood and mucus from the rectal stump after an endoscopy. The discharge is not only heavy and foul-smelling but also difficult to manage with standard incontinence products. Here’s how one person creatively tackled this issue and some additional advice for managing similar situations:

- The individual created a homemade solution by adapting a stoma cap into a half-round "bag" that fits along the anal cleft.
- They used double-sided tape to seal the flat edges of this bag to the skin on either side of the anus.
- The first version of this DIY device was too small and couldn’t control the odor, but a larger version successfully managed both the volume and the smell.
- This homemade "anal bag" effectively prevents leaks, boosts confidence, and allows for normal daily activities.

Here are some additional tips and insights:

1. For lighter mucus discharge, try sitting on the toilet and gently bearing down as if passing stool. This can help the mucus drip directly into the bowl, reducing what ends up in pads or clothing.
2. For continuous protection, consider using panty liners or thicker Poise brand urinary incontinence pads, which can absorb small-to-moderate amounts of mucus and slight bleeding.
3. If you notice bright-red bleeding mixed with mucus, especially during chemotherapy, it might intensify. If the bleeding persists, it’s important to schedule a scope to rule out hemorrhoids or cancer recurrence.
4. Completing lengthy hospital admission forms and arranging scopes can be stressful, but visual inspections and targeted biopsies can provide reassurance or early detection.
