DIY Ostomy Covers - Tips and Tricks?

This topic is all about creating your own decorative and functional covers for an ostomy pouch. If you're interested in making these covers yourself but aren't sure where to start, here are some helpful tips and advice to guide you:

1. You can find a free pattern and instructions for making ostomy covers at stomaatje.com/clothing.html. This site also offers other sewing tips related to ostomy needs.

2. If you want to make it easier to empty the pouch, consider adapting the pattern by keeping the bottom edge open. This is especially useful for those with an ileostomy.

3. When it comes to materials:
- You can use fabric you already have at home, like old pillowcases or T-shirts.
- T-shirt jersey fabric is a great choice because it doesn’t fray, which means you won’t need to hem it.
- For decoration or added strength, patterned duct tape can be a fun option. There are several YouTube videos that show how to use it effectively.

4. For constructing the cover:
- Start by tracing around your pouch on a piece of light cardboard, then add a ½-inch seam allowance to create a template you can use again.
- Even if you're new to sewing, you can make these covers with just basic straight stitching.
- Making your own covers is much more affordable than purchasing them online.

5. If you need visual guidance, there are plenty of step-by-step photo sequences available online to help you through the process.
