Hello, I have a loop ileostomy for 1.5 years. I was wondering if any of you have had blockages from eating cauliflower?

Everyone is different. It's a no for me, but I know other members have eaten it without a problem. The only way you will know is to try it. I will say proceed with caution. Small amount and chew, chew, chew. Hydrate well.

Angelica- As usual, you've written another interesting post. February 5th, 2019, was my reversal surgery after having an ileo for 6 months. I'm one of those fortunate success stories. Of course, things are different now, and I still have to be careful about what and how much I eat, as I don't have a colon. At first, I was afraid to leave the house. My biggest fear was having to use a public bathroom and have the toilet not flush! Even now, when I know that I'll be in someone else's home, I won't eat anything beforehand. I read other people's stories and sometimes feel guilty for having had it so easy, not to mention that I have a significant other who is 100 percent supportive. I've gotten so much out of this website and truly feel for those of you who have it so much worse than I. But I feel it necessary to let folks hear about the success stories.

I have an end stoma and have never had any problems myself. All you can do is try a small amount and go from there, and even then, if you think it's caused a problem, try it again in the future. Our digestive system is just life always changing. A word of warning: avoid the stem at first; that can be harder to digest for some. It's my favorite part of cauliflower, but lucky for me, there's no problem.

I love it, JB, but I have too many issues with it and broccoli.

I have no problems, and I have very bad bile duct issues. Unfortunately, everyone will be different. Like someone said before, try a small amount and see first how your body responds. I mash them like potatoes and eat them raw. The one thing to remember about any raw vegetable is to chew it really well, and also where you have your ostomy located. Mine, I can tell if I haven't chewed it enough. Another thing which may sound gross is if you use transparent bags. Look at how your output comes out, not only after eating but during. I know it seems nasty, but you can see how it passes and what types of food you need to be more cautious with. That's how I learned. I have to be careful with mushrooms, olives, and kidney beans. They will come out whole if you don't chew well enough. Corn is about the one thing I still haven't gotten myself to try because I worry it will block me, but I've read some people still eat it. However, I can eat popcorn if chewed well enough. Best of luck!

I have an ileostomy, and I just recently asked about cauliflower on here. I was encouraged to try it—a small amount at first, which I did. Three tablespoons of it, and I had no problem. Now I eat cauliflower a lot—no issues. I steam it and then put it through a food processor. Everyone is different, though, so just be careful. Don't eat it raw; that would be my suggestion.

Ileostomy here. I eat it regularly, sometimes steamed, in a stir-fry, or in other cooked dishes, or raw with dip. I've had no issues at all, but I chew everything really well.

I haven't tried cauliflower yet either. With fall coming, I was thinking of trying roasted cauliflower soup.

That soup sounds really good. Let me know how it turns out. Are you making it from scratch?
