Adjusting to Life and Intimacy After Colorectal Surgery

This topic is about adjusting to life and intimacy after undergoing colorectal surgery and living with an ostomy. The person sharing their experience is 18 months post-surgery, which included a colostomy and complete removal of the rectum due to cancer. They are still getting used to life with an ostomy bag and are experiencing some challenges.

Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

1. The person feels a persistent sensation of a lump in the anal area, which is bothersome. They also find that vaginal penetration during intercourse is painful or not possible beyond about an inch.

2. They have an upcoming CAT scan and are wondering if scar tissue might be causing these issues.

3. It's noted that vaginal tightness or limited penetration after rectum removal is not typically expected. Often, these problems are due to adhesions or scar tissue.

4. It is recommended to consult a gynecologist to check for vaginal scar tissue, adhesions, or any other structural changes that might be causing discomfort.

5. Over time, discomfort may decrease as tissues continue to heal, although this can vary from person to person.
