Hi, I would like to know if anyone had a rash or reaction to the belts that they wear for the ostomy. I had a belt from Hollister and got a big rash from the belt. Then I wore the Coloplast belt and also got a rash. My doctor wants me to wear a belt because it keeps inverting my stoma.

Hi... never heard of this...

Are you saying it's the flange belt? Or wrap belt? I'm assuming the former could be too tight?

Cut out a T-shirt. The hole for your bag and belt on the outside. The T-shirt will act like insulation between skin and belt fabric.

See if that helps.

Let us know.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I have to admit this website does seem very friendly and helpful.

I will definitely log into chat as soon as I can and see who is around. Looking forward to meeting some like-minded people! :)

Not a wrap, the rubber belt that clips onto the bag.

Yup.. figured. T-shirt might help. .. you said it's rubber? Mine is fabric. 🤔.. were both belts rubber? That could be an allergic reaction due to rubber. 🤔

Try Nu-Hope Corp. belts. They are made in different widths and fit over the flange. I wear them 24/7. Only take off the belt to shower or change the wafer/flange.

I received information about it at the UOAA conference in Orlando. I think I will need to call them as the sizing seems difficult to figure out.

Hello Micky.

I am allergic to latex (rubber) so come out in a rash with most elasticated things.
With my stoma-bag-belt, I wear a strip of neoprene (the material used for wetsuits) underneath, which can be bought in offcuts of various depths, widths and lengths.
With my hernia belt, I simply turn the elastic strips over so that they do not touch my skin.

Similarly with other garments, I always make sure that the elastic does not touch my skin: i.e. I tuck shirts under my underpants; Tuck my trousers  into my socks; wear a fabric hat under the CPAP mask straps. Plus, where possible, I try to find alternatives to elastic.
I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Bill

Yes, they have many options for sizing. I use the same basic sizing for all my Nu-Hope belts. The only thing I change is the belt width. I have 2, 3, and 4-inch wide belts. I alternate them during the week. I wear a 2-inch for a day. Then the 3. Then the 4. Then back to the 2.

Get a hernia support belt with a hole to pull the bag through. There are multiple brands like Nu Hope and Stealth Belt. If those also give a rash, try what Warrior suggested.

Thanks for all your help. I will try the belt.

Do the belts have latex rubber in the elastic? I have a latex allergy, and if there is latex in the elastic of something I need to use, I make a cotton cover to keep it from touching my skin. I did look at these belts and decided against them because I worried about the elastic. You may do better with a wrap or stealth belt depending on what you're looking for. Amazon has some reasonably priced solutions. Not sure if you could wear a t-shirt under the belt?

I've never heard of this. Do you think you are wearing it too tight? Is it rubbing? Is it too loose? Are you doing sweaty activities? That might contribute to a rash. If you are sweaty and the belt rubs your skin, I can see where you might get a rash.

Hi Micky,

I got a belt that clips onto my bags free from Coloplast Canada. It is a cloth-type stretch elastic with plastic ends to clip onto the flange. It doesn't give me any trouble. At Ostomy Depot (another Canadian site), I get my supplies as it is cheapest there, and I bought another identical Coloplast belt (2 in case I need a clean one to switch out for leaks).

The only time it's bothered me is during a leak when it gets wet. I don't know if it's the same Coloplast belt you mentioned, but the others have commented on great solutions.

If you can sew or DIY, try covering the elastic part of your belts up to the clips with cloth.

Rubber anywhere on my body I can't handle.

You're allergic to latex, so what I do is make covers from cotton broadcloth to protect my skin. Also, there are several foods you'll need to avoid, such as bananas and avocados. If you can sew, it helps, or if not, a friend may be able to help.

They mailed me a few samples. I need to watch a YouTube video before I try them. In Florida, it's difficult with high humidity and temperature. I just got tested for allergies and a specific one for mold and fungus. I do have a fungus allergy and will start a specific allergy shot that needs to be administered once a week. The biggest problem is the Convatec Moldable system and probable allergy to Hollister Premier. Hope New-Hope works!
