Wound Care Progress and Dealing with a New Hernia

This topic is about someone's journey with a colostomy, which was created after an emergency surgery due to a perforated sigmoid diverticulitis. The person has faced some challenges along the way, but there have been improvements and valuable lessons learned. Here are some key points and advice from their experience:

- Initially, there were complications such as persistent leakage from the ostomy appliance and an incisional infection. The infection required the incision to be opened, drained, and dressed three times a day.

- The leakage issue was resolved by switching to a convex wafer and using matching paste rings on the stoma and wafer. This solution has been effective for the past three months.

- There are still two incision sites that remain as chronic, draining wounds. These are being treated at a wound clinic with Fibracol Plus dressing. The person is waiting for these wounds to heal completely before scheduling reversal surgery.

- A parastomal hernia has been confirmed by the surgeon. This is a common occurrence and will be repaired during the future reversal surgery.

- A recent colonoscopy showed clear results, and the next one is scheduled in five years, although this may change after the reversal surgery.

- The person expresses gratitude and a renewed sense of optimism, reflecting on personal growth since the surgery.

Advice and insights from this experience include:

1. Maintaining a positive and forward-looking attitude is crucial for recovery. Many people believe that mindset accounts for 90% of their success and encourage others to keep motivating themselves.

2. Sharing personal experiences can be inspiring both for the person sharing and for others who are facing similar challenges.
