Hello, I am traveling with my brother who has a newer ileostomy. We are in Cancun for the week and are flying through supplies as we can't get anything to adhere. His skin surrounding the ostomy is bright red and weeping. We cannot get the skin protectant to dry and do not have any stoma powder. We cannot find anywhere here that carries ostomy supplies. Any suggestions???

Do you have a doc at your resort? I had the problem in PV. He told me where I could get stuff.

Every morning when I enjoy my big cup of coffee I scroll through this site and this warm feeling just overwhelms me.

I never post anything (too shy and it feels like I don’t have anything of interest to share tbh) but I sure read a lot of posts from you guys and they are so informative, supportive encouraging and so so full of love and a big dose of humor.

I feel like part of the best family in the world (even though I am just sitting quietly in the corner lol).

I just wanted to share that feeling and say thanks to all of you for being so wonderful.

And also, please keep some fingers crossed for me this week. I have my blood test on Thursday, checking my CA 125 levels. Ovarian cancer reoccurrence fear unlocked again. I hate it!

Lots of love from Sweden

Try to find medical tape or Tegaderm (thin clear plastic sheet sometimes used for wound dressing). Use that to cover the weepy skin. It will provide a dry surface to adhere the appliance to. This is not a great solution, but it will help you short term. Be very sure to use adhesive remover to get it off.

The weepy skin will keep the appliance from adhering, which is why you need the tape/Tegaderm. But you'll want to treat the skin before you get home. Try calamine lotion to treat the skin and a blow dryer to dry it.

Water may be the villain….I'd suggest you use bottled water to clean the area - wondering if you can text a supplier in the US for supplies …also, per Google, Amazon.com.mx and Amazon.com may be helpful, but you must set your default address. Good luck…jb

Does Amazon deliver to Cancun? Overnight? All of those supplies are available on their site.

This is what I recommend also: wound dressing sheets cut to cover the weepy skin will allow the bag to adhere to that.

Hi MissHaley,

I would suggest going to a pharmacy and asking for

Domeboro solution, known in Spanish as solución Domeboro. It comes in small packets of dried powder that you mix with just a small amount of water. Soak a couple of sterile gauze pads or surgical sponges and lay them over the weeping area between changes. It is key to leave it on there for about 20 minutes to have an effect. It will help dry out the weepiness of the irritated skin. Then air dry well before placing the new flange. I wonder what is bringing this issue on? What products are you using? What procedure? Sometimes we just need to unlearn certain habits :) Hope this helps. I know it really helped me!
