Help Needed: Finding Ostomy Supplies in Cancun

This topic is about a traveler in Cancun who is facing challenges with their brother's ileostomy appliances. The skin around his stoma is red and weeping, and they are struggling to find the necessary supplies locally. Here are some helpful suggestions to manage the situation:

1. Reach out to the resort’s on-site physician. Local doctors might know where to find pharmacies or medical supply stores that carry ostomy products.

2. Clean the affected area with bottled water to prevent any contaminants that could affect the appliance's adhesion.

3. Consider ordering supplies online:
- Use Amazon.com.mx or Amazon.com to order brands like Hollister, Coloplast, or ConvaTec. Check if overnight delivery is an option by setting your Mexican address.
- Contact your usual U.S. supplier and request an emergency shipment.

4. For temporary adhesion while waiting for supplies:
- Use medical tape, Tegaderm, or any sterile wound-dressing sheet cut to size to cover the weeping skin, then attach the wafer to the dressing.
- Always use an adhesive remover when removing the temporary dressing to prevent further skin damage.

5. To dry and soothe the irritated skin:
- Apply calamine lotion and use a blow-dryer on a low/cool setting to ensure the skin is completely dry before applying a new appliance.
- Purchase Domeboro solution packets from a Mexican pharmacy. Mix as directed, soak gauze pads, and lay them on the irritated area for about 20 minutes, then air-dry thoroughly. This can help stop the weeping and improve adhesion.
