Fiber Intake with GLP-1s and Ileostomy Concerns

I have an ileostomy with a bag.

So I started a Zepbound journey. Knowing that a common side effect is constipation, it is highly recommended that you include a lot of fiber in your diet (along with crazy amounts of protein and water!).

I have been taking Imodium every day for years to keep things "not so watery." I am stopping that until I know how the Zepbound affects me.

That said, can I/should I ignore the daily fiber intake recommendations, just sticking with the fiber I get naturally?

TIA! - Tangy

I have been on Mounjaro for several years. No issues. Dropped a lot of weight. Ileostomy. I eat normally, just less of it.

Good Evening Bob and All,

I checked my email and saw new postings. That's when I usually visit the site. I've recently met a few others who have developed UC and have made contact with them. I've directed them to this site. I also use the site to look up concerns they or I have. This site has been unusually helpful to me. I have seen questions and concerns of others posted. After I scroll down and see similar comments that I would make, I don't comment. As for social media interest, I have a Facebook account (due to work). As of this date, I have one Facebook Friend (and don't even know how that happened). I find the content here more relevant to my life. Then again, I'm old school. If I want to see how a friend is doing I just make a call.

Stay Safe and Sane all. Back to the hockey game,

SharkFan

I too have just started Mounjaro. It's been a game changer for output. Much less frequent and no need for Imodium anymore. I knew it slowed down gastric emptying but didn't expect the output to change so quickly and for the better!

You're smart to stop the Imodium for now. Zepbound slows digestion on its own, and combining it with something that already firms output can mess with your system. Keep an eye on hydration and salt intake instead of chasing fiber goals. Too much fiber too fast with an ileostomy is just asking for a blockage.
