Odor control

This topic is all about finding affordable ways to manage odors in ostomy pouches. Instead of spending money on commercial deodorants, there are some simple and cost-effective alternatives you can try. Here are some suggestions:

1. Baking Soda
- Many people have found that a small pinch of Arm & Hammer baking soda works wonders as an in-pouch deodorizer.
- For easy dispensing, you can:
- Transfer the baking soda into a plastic margarine tub and use a small scoop or teaspoon.
- Create tiny sachets by cutting down coffee filters, which are convenient for use when you're out and about.
- Use a small, rinsed, and dried eye-drops bottle filled with a baking-soda slurry, and apply it with the nozzle.

2. Breath Mints
- Dropping a peppermint Altoid or Tic Tac mint directly into the pouch has been effective for some in masking odors.

3. Essential Oils
- Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the pouch can provide a fresh scent and help control odors.

4. Household Items Being Tested
- Some are experimenting with rolled-up scented dryer sheets, though results are still pending.

5. General Troubleshooting Tip
- If you notice an odor when the pouch is not being emptied or changed, it might be due to leaks under the wafer or a malfunctioning filter. Persistent smells usually indicate one of these issues.
