I  have the same problem with my ostomy.I have a rash under my armpits and around my ostomy.I have been to my dermatoligist, allergy specialist, cancer doctor and my physician.I   also have been to two ostomy nurses. I have had prescription creams, powders and anything else you can name.I am on prednisone and that helps but as soon as I stop them it comes right back.At the bottom of my stoma where the tape goes my skin oozes and don't stick well.I have been in touch with convatec nurses and they have sent me samples of everything they make.I still think they(convatec)changed something in there tape because I used to work and take a shower every day and only change once a week. Now I have to take a shower every other day and change every other day because as soon as the tape gets wet it comes loose.I have my ostomy since 2004 and this problem for a year.Dave

I wish I could help you with this problem, but I can't. =( My husband is currently having issues with the skin around where his bag sits, and we're in the middle of trying to figure it out right now.

About seven years ago, just about every aspect of my life was ostomy related. From the moment I was told an ostomy might be needed until some months down the road I existed as a person afflicted with a colostomy. I feared someone other than my immediate family might find out I had a bag. Ugh! What could be worse? Suppose it filled real fast when I was out with no place to hide and take care of myself. God forbid should it leak in church! Suppose I roll over on it in bed. I was a lesser creature, destined to a life of emotional anguish and physical routines different from most of the rest of the world. I felt like a freak. Then I found folks like you guys here, read your stuff, really “listened” to what you had to say and I began looking at things differently. We know perception is everything and I began to understand how good things were relative to what they could’ve been. So many folks had it so much worse than I did. That didn’t make my discomfort go away but it exposed how fortunate I was to be dealing with my stuff and not their’s. I felt a little guilt, maybe selfishness but quickly forgave myself by understanding I just wasn’t smart enough to fix my feelings. Then, I wonder what smarts have to do with feelings. My perception was warped so my perspective toward my existence was warped.
I learned over the last few years with the help of lots of folks right here at MAO that I could be better at living just by accepting some facts. It is what it is and so what? It’s not the worst thing to happen to a person.
I think everything is, in some way, related to everything else. I just put the ostomy thing in the back seat and drive forward.
Respectfully,
Mike

Hi all, don't know if this will be of much help but a couple of years ago I started getting a rash where the pouch was rubbing against my skin and there was a package of baby wipes, no alcohol and had aloe, whatever that is, anyway after using these wipes for a few days my skin cleared up for about a 6 month period and when the rash came back out came the baby wipes and sure enough after a couple of days it cleared up again. Now, at the first sign of an itch or rash out comes the baby wipes, might help in someone Else's case, worth a try, Ed

When I get a rash around my stoma (was from using the relia wipes that you put on with the powder before you put your wafer on-I stopped using them) anyway, an ostomy nurse told me to use foot powder instead of the stoma powder until the rash was gone & it works like a charm - try it!
