Hi,

I have to get an MRI on my pelvis. Does the MRI affect the wafer and bag? Will I have to do a bag change afterward?

Hi,

I had an abdominal and pelvic floor MRI earlier in the year, and there was no effect on my bag.

Good to hear, thank you.

The MRI will have zero effect on your appliance.

I think if Iron Man had an ostomy going for an MRI, it would likely hurt. 😆.

Magnetism has no effect on plastic.

MRI will not affect it. Had one done a month ago.

Just had an MRI enterography a week ago, and the pouching system was fine. It lasted through all the contrast liquid and all. It even stayed on for more than 1 day.

No problems. I have one annually; you just get bored in there.

Two tips - make sure you tell the nurse who checks you in that you have a stoma, and ask to use the toilet and empty before you go into the scanning room.

I found with my stoma that it can be a little uncomfortable, as they typically strap a belt over you to hold things still. But I haven't had to change my bag or anything.

One thing you may find is that you will be given a contrast dye injection, or occasionally asked to drink a fluid before having the MRI. This can make your output quite loose, so just be aware of it and make sure you empty well before leaving the hospital.

I've had numerous CTs/MRIs, and each time I have a fresh wafer/bag and am empty before the MRI. I tell them, and the injection doesn't bother me or the appliance. It's about the same for the CT scans I've had. They don't even mind my drawing on the bag and are surprised to see it. No leaks, and my output is about the same.

Only if you have metal on your pouch. Think microwave. High-frequency magnetic waves will heat it up and could pull it off you. Damage the gantry, too. -RT(ARRT)(CT)(MR) retired.
