Doc wants to give me tramadol. I would like to hear from everyone that has used this drug if there are bad side effects or if it causes blockages. You know all the stuff they don't tell you. Thanks all for helping.

I have tried tramadol before and have had a negative interaction with other medications I take that made me stop taking it. I think it can be effective for pain relief, but if you are on other medications, I would ask your doctor or pharmacist to run a drug-drug interaction profile for you to avoid negative effects.

Hi gang,

I was thinking what a great resource this site has been for me since I found it. It would have been really helpful, but maybe a bit scary, to have found it before my ostomy, but that's water under the bridge. But I got thinking about it, and now I'm questioning why doctors and hospitals don't provide this site's contact info to any patient even considering an ostomy today. And how can we change that so potential ostomates can learn about the road ahead for them by getting on here and asking questions before the docs go chop-chop. How exactly do you get all hospitals to provide their patients specific information, like this website?

I just happened to find this site something like 4 years after my ostomy when I Googled "ostomy forum" or something like that. But I never found it during previous searches.....so I found this site pretty much by pure luck. We need to find a way to make this site available to new or soon-to-be ostomates......as that's when we really need to commiserate with fellow ostomates. Anybody have any thoughts on how we do this?

Thanks,

Bob

I have and am still on tramadol, no ill effects except it makes you spaced out a bit; don't drive on it. Good pain relief, but it does not last long. Not a lot of doctors like to prescribe it as it is very addictive. I only ever take it if I am in real pain. But make sure the other meds you are on don't affect using it. Eva2012 : )

I was on tramadol and I reacted to it pretty heavily with my emotions.

It never caused me any blockages, but I was always addicted to it within a few days.

I have been on tramadol for about 2 years. I first started it when I suffered from migraines. At first, it made me very ill when I took it by itself, but since then I take 2 tablets with 2 Panadol, and it's great; I don't have any issues with it. My only issue I have now with it is I take too many drugs that have a serotonin base to them, and I overdosed on serotonin, and that's bad!

Just research it...

I have been on TRAMADOL for 2 and a half years. I agree with Wookey; I feel spaced out and a bit paranoid, but with Panadol, it works better. I do get blockages, but I only started this medication when I had my 8th abdominal surgery for Crohn's disease. Yes, I am addicted. Mine comes in a liquid form, so I don't lose it with my ileo; they pop out, also other pills, especially Morphine pills. But I am no longer measuring it, so I am up to 700 mg a day. I know, I know, it's a lot. I have serious pain (referred pain) and nerve damage, so my body didn't heal well. I am angry now, an addict. But I am using LYRICA, which is great but expensive—$74, not even a month's worth—so I am trying to use Gabapentin because it's cheaper. The government doesn't pay for Lyrica. I can't say you won't have blockages because my small intestine has adhesions; I don't think it's TRAMADOL. Give it a go. xxxxx good luck, Mare - Mooza xxxxxxx

Hi!

I wouldn't suggest tramadol unless it is a last resort! When I take it, at best I go very dizzy - I used to call them my dizzy tablets - then I tend to talk about a load of random crap, and then just fall asleep! At worst, I tend to hallucinate a bit and have conversations with people who aren't there! Sounds totally weird, but yeah, it affects me badly, so I wouldn't suggest it unless 100% necessary

I think it's one of those drugs that affect people differently.....for me it totally spaced me out and made me sleep all the time.....I couldn't possibly drive on it and found I couldn't manage everyday basic things

Hey, yeah, I know what you mean. I actually had to take some last night, and even though I only took a small dose, I was jumping off the ceilings one minute, and then the second I was fast asleep! But I would never be able to drive or anything like that; I can't even walk to the loo in a straight line! xx

I was put on tramadol, and it was okay with me, but you can become addicted very quickly to this form of pain control, as there is a small dose of morphine in it. Have you been on solpadol?
