have some abdominal pain. Have only liquid out put with only small amount of solids in it for a half a day. Did not eat much today but had a very large meal which included fiberous food before I went to bed last night. Definetly passed some of it today but not sure if all.

How do I know for sure and what can I do to help pass a blockage?

Just saw this and hopefully all is resolved!

Food obstruction to an ileostomy stoma:  As it resolves, the pain and cramping should subside as well as the bloating. You should be passing some stool and liquid also.

The only sure fire way of knowing it is gone is by x ray.    If you are still crampy or painful with decreased output at this time, I would get in to your emergency room or doctor's office to check.

My "old pro" patients are pretty good at relieving there own obstructions with warm tub baths or showers or compresses, massage towards the  stoma, knee chest position sometimes helps.  If it persists a couple of hours though, I suggest an emergency room visit to check; sometimes symtpoms of food obstruction can mimick other things; best to get checked.

I would not advise a high fiber meal if you think  you are obstructed; this will more likely complicate the issue!    Best to stick to low residue foods and chew well, keep up the fluids!

Good Evening Bob and All,

I checked my email and saw new postings. That's when I usually visit the site. I've recently met a few others who have developed UC and have made contact with them. I've directed them to this site. I also use the site to look up concerns they or I have. This site has been unusually helpful to me. I have seen questions and concerns of others posted. After I scroll down and see similar comments that I would make, I don't comment. As for social media interest, I have a Facebook account (due to work). As of this date, I have one Facebook Friend (and don't even know how that happened). I find the content here more relevant to my life. Then again, I'm old school. If I want to see how a friend is doing I just make a call.

Stay Safe and Sane all. Back to the hockey game,

SharkFan
