I saw a video, and now I can't find it! The woman in the video used a hot glue gun to cover the outside filter, but also the inside filter. I want to try it, as I don't like the filter leaking onto my clothes!

Just put some tape over the filter.

I've done that, but I find that scotch tape makes it leak under the tape.

I have learned a lot from this site. People are willing to share things that has worked for them,  Things like supplies, skin care, different surgeies, blockages, and a lot more.

Me too! I hated the poop spots on my shirt. Tried duct tape, waterproof tape, and silicone tape - all failed. Poop is corrosive and warm. Went to filterless pouches. Hot glue might work. I would try Crazy Glue or a fast epoxy (seals better) first.

Convetec came out with a new filter system. Totally enclosed in a double-layered pouch. Only available with a Convex wafer. The company representative said they are expanding it and it would be available on all wafers next year.

Her name is Maggie. She is a nurse and has had an ileostomy for years. Her YouTube channel is Let's Talk IBD. She has great videos on it about stoma care and living with an ostomy. I've learned a lot from watching her.

Use bags with no filter.

Not all pouches come without filters.

I use a pouch with a filter, but I put a piece of 3M 'Transpore' tape over the filter. I've been using this method for years and have never had it leak. Just make sure you are sealing the tape well. It might not be that easy to find. I got mine from a pharmacy that specializes in medical equipment. Maybe try online?

The bags I use come with an adhesive patch to cover the filter for swimming, etc., and are hell to get off; it actually tears the bag trying to remove them. I've only ever used B.Braun bags, and until this minute, I assumed they all came with a patch. I've never had an issue with the filter in these bags either.

I'm thinking first... the bags are defective. They should not leak through and soil your clothing. Nope. So that's an issue thrown at the manufacturer.

Secondly, those half-moon C strips we use? Those things stick like mad. Why not try covering the filter with a cut-out piece?

Duct tape is awfully strong too... 😳...

I use Coloplast bags, which have a filter (although some of them come without). I've never had them leak out of the filter unless it was a defective bag. I also use the little stickers that they have in the boxes, which I now started using to keep the bag from deflating too much to prevent pancaking. Because my ileostomy output was too liquid, I had leakage issues until I started taking Loperamide to thicken, but then I started getting leakage from the pancaking, which was easier to correct for with the little stickers (oh, and I used them to cover up the filters before showering too).

I use bags without filters and burp when needed. Never tried filters as my brother-in-law said they were a nightmare. There are valves called Osto EZ-vent you may want to look into - they look more substantial and secure.

Not sure how I managed to post twice.

I've watched her videos for years, too. I love her attitude!

Was her name Maggie Tretton? She has a blog, Let's Talk. I have learned a lot from watching her videos on how to care for my ileostomy.

Yes! This is the video I was going to recommend. Life with IBD is so helpful for all ostomates, even ones like me with a colostomy, not an ileostomy.

I do too. She is so informative, and she seems to be fearless. I've learned a lot from her videos.

I agree - I use Coloplast too - tried a few manufacturers at the beginning but found Coloplast less "rustly" and the grey color so much less "nursing home/grannie's gusset" than the flesh-colored ones. I have never, not once, had a poo leak through the filter. I have had the occasional leak around the side due to sweating during intense exercise or being thrown about while sailing.
