After suffering from ulcerative colitis for nearly 17 years, I finally received an answer to my prayers, sort of lol. I went in for a colostomy and wound up with an ileostomy. On the bright side, I could eat nearly anything, and after 7 years of starvation, oh man, did I eat, and eat, and eat lol. My co-worker teases me all the time, saying, "Hey, I thought you were on a diet?" I tell him I am, a see-food diet... I see food, I eat lol... Which, of course, has led to a bit of a weight problem lol. Dang it, but hey, you can't have it all, can you? Actually, all things considered and my age, my weight really isn't bad lol. Don't get the wrong impression here lol... I don't wake up each morning and say "moo." I have learned to survive and deal with my ostomy and am thankful to be alive. My ostomy has not slowed me down a bit, and I participate in nearly any activity I want, although with some considerations lol.... If I wanted one piece of information to be passed on to anyone who has recently undergone this type of life change, believe me, there is life after an ostomy! My ostomy was only the beginning of life-changing medical conditions. In '05, I suffered a heart attack, and in '08, I underwent double aneurysm surgery. Despite that, next year I plan on starting a trek across America on horseback. Will this require some considerations? Sure. Will it stop me? NOPE... Someone asked me if I realized that I could die during this trip, and I said I could die in my sleep tomorrow. If that happens, I will die happy doing something I love and believe in.... So I will write more about that next time..... Till then.....
