Actually braved the swimming costume for the first time, not as bad as I expected! It's so hard to find decent swimwear though; all the sites I looked on either didn't go down to a size 8 or all their stock was designed for people who were 90, not 30!

Swimsuits........UGH !!!
A woman's worst "nightmare" selection.

I can't think of another piece of apparel that can destroy your self-image, separate the woman from the girls, and induce the fear of hidden cameras, LIKE A SWIMSUIT !!!!! Sizes are just cruel jokes....Find one large enough to cover your boobs, your butt cheeks hang out, fit the bottom, oh my, the boobs are on display. No such thing as the perfect fit, as there are NO such thing as the perfect woman !! You huddle in a small room surrounded by mirrors and BAD lighting, folding and rolling your underwear in a vain attempt to protect yourself from some crotch cootie left by the previous brave warrior, only to be left with bulges that make your bottom appear to be the moon (complete with craters and no signs of life). I HATE shopping for a bathing suit !!!! You braved it, selected it, wore it, and even got it wet...SALUTE !!! You are my latest hero !!! LOL

Nervous but excited about tomorrow. I have been reading some of the threads here and am brand new to the site. I am grateful to have had the ileostomy so my body had a chance to heal but am truly hoping all goes well with the operation and future.

I have a collapsed disk in my back and sleeping on it for the past 7 months because of the bag has caused me constant daily excruciating pain. I haven't slept through the night and have had so many accidents.

I am so glad I found this site. Gained so much information so I am much better prepared for what happens post operation and what worked for people diet and supplement (fiber) wise. Thank you for that.

The trick is to find one that has a skirt-type thing over the top of the actual suit itself. Mine also has wrinkles down both sides, so it hides a multitude of sins! Believe it or not, I have discovered that the best place for all clothes since having my stoma is ASDA.

Oh boy—if you find a good swimsuit, let me know. I have to go shopping for the dreaded swimsuit soon. Plus, I am used to wearing bikinis for so long—how do you find one that covers our extra part?

Steer clear of ones that are designed for ostomates, as they just make you feel awful.

It can take a while, but your best bet is to just look at normal shops. Because of the design of most swimming costumes, they are tight enough that you can just tuck the bag in. Alternatively, buy the shorts part of a tankini to match the costume you buy and wear both. I have done this, and it works better if you wear them underneath the costume.

Hope this helps :-)
