Hello, it's me again. I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have helped me on my journey, especially my surgeon (Chris Speakman) and all the stoma nurses. Not to mention all of the wonderful people I've met and talked with on this site.
It has now been a few months since I posted my last blog, but patience is a virtue. I have finally got rid of the bag following a restorative proctectomy and formation of an ileo-anal pouch. I have a three-month follow-up appointment on Wednesday, 11th January 2012, at 11:40 am with my surgeon and his assistant. I now only have a 10-12 inch scar situated from about an inch above my navel to two or three inches below my pelvic line. I also have a 3-4 inch scar where the stoma was. I just have to keep an eye on them as I had open surgery and am very pleased with the results. Life is so much easier (with regrets and no offense to people who cannot have this operation, sorry to them all). Infection is the only thing I worry about now, as newly created scars can get infected very easily.
Once again, thank you for your support. I will keep updating my blog on a regular basis as well as answer any questions or queries that any other person has to ask about my experience.
Thanks.

“Every morning with my coffee, I read here and feel wrapped in warmth - I hardly post, but it still feels like family.”
“Our oncologist literally wrote down the link; they said more patients need this website.”
“This place pulled me out of the dark. I went from lurking to living again.”
“At 3am, someone’s awake somewhere in the world. I’m never alone here.”
After I got my ostomy I found this site and got a lifetime membership. I have had so much help from the core members, things that even the wound care nurses didn't know. If you haven't been through this journey you don't know - only the people that have experienced this first hand truly understand what your going through. The support is enormously helpful getting through this. Afterwards when you start to learn how to deal with this new normal you can begin to help others. ...mtnman.
