INSPIRATION.

Inspiration is a notion
springing from some strong emotion.
Like a volcanic geyser spout
suddenly it springs right out.

Emotions are the driving force
I’ve yet to figure out the source.
It can appear from anywhere
here and there and everywhere.

Inspiration may ignite
emotions that lay out of sight.
It’s like emotions have just waited
but they must be stimulated.

I’ve had inspiration come
from my stoma and my bum.
Maybe because it touched upon
a place from once a light had shone.

Maybe a stoma just confirms
by opening up this can of worms
that we are always vulnerable
to anything that’s horrible.

Stomas with their complications
give to us some revelations
at what we say and feel and think
that may well bring us to the brink.

It’s tough to have the irritation
but that’s the stuff of inspiration.
We need to feel emotions stir
for inspiration to occur.

I have to say that up to date
my stoma’s made me contemplate.
I know it could be so much worse
than inspiring rhyming verse.

Fay,

I am one of those few people who still have a lot of output at night. However, I suffer from short gut syndrome after seven bowel surgeries that led to the loss of much of my small intestine as well as my large intestine from the initial bowel cancer surgery. It does get better over time as your system adjusts, but an ileostomy can be a challenging adjustment. It's important to connect with a good Enterostomal Nurse - ET nurses who can help you problem-solve over time. It's been five years since my initial surgery, and I had a great visit with a new ET nurse in December. He really helped me with the problem of high output at night. I had been getting up every 90-120 minutes to empty my high output bag because of filling. If I slept for three hours without emptying, I would have problems. My ET nurse helped my husband and me make a nighttime collection system using a Rubbermaid juice container with a handle and my old CPAP hose. This is connected to one of my two-piece high output bags and allows for continual drainage. It isn't pretty, but it has been a real lifesaver. I guess the real message I want to share is to stick with it, find a nurse who you can work with, and together you will find solutions to whatever challenges you face. This website is also an important support for me and others. There is nothing you will go through that others haven't already faced and figured out. There is so much wisdom here. Read the materials they've put together for newbies. There are a lot of great suggestions to use. I hope things get better quickly for you.

Hello Angelicamarie.
Thanks for your post. Some rhymes are more pertinent than others for different people. I wrote 'A Loner with a Stoma' after there was a forum discussion on the subject on this site, so some of the heartfelt emotion and meaning in the verses were in fact other people's contributions. I will be forever indebted to the folks who provide the concepts to motivate and start me off on trying to capture the sentiments in rhyming verse.
Best wishes

Hello Angelicamarie.

I think we have all been touched by this emotion on occasions, which is why it rings so true whengiven poetic expression.

Bull, I made a comment thanking you, I didn't actually read that one through, I thought you were talking to me when you said nice picture. My mistake; so I thanked you for the compliment, but it wasn't for me. Angelicamarie

Hello Angelicamarie.
You were right about the comment. I just thought that the father Christmas and his slay flying with the two planes was funny.
However, I have looked at your new pictures on the photo section and thought they were great. You are quite photogenic - I was going to comment on them but could not decide which one was best. So, you can take that as a belated compliment.

Hello Angelicamarie.
Message deleted as requested, although there is really no need to concern yourself about mistakes in messages just as long as they do not alter the meaning.

Hello Jackiee.
Thanks for your comments. But given Angelicamarie's reply, it has left me wondering whether your comments were meant for me of for her. I want to think that you liked the poem and the name but upon reflection you could have meant Angelicamarie' name which, I would agree is great.
The name 'B. Withers' on the other hand was an invitation to readers of the poetry to appreciate the sentiments being expressed. That is: 'be with us'. Some of my earlier work reflected 'the price we pay' when experiencing some of the things the verses captured. Hence the name was originally 'Bill'(the price we pay) Toby (to be) Withers (with us). However, it has long-since been shortened to B. Withers in the hope that readers will identify with the sentiments expressed in the rhymes.
Best wishes
