DEPOSIT. (ach-y-fi)
When we use the term deposit
many people think of it
as a monetary sum
put down before a deal is done.
This deposit makes us feel
that we’ve signed and sealed the deal
but there is still some to be paid
before the deal’s said to be made.
Another meaning of this word,
which is very often heard
is when something is safely stored
like money in the bank we hoard.
But deposit also means
sand, or rock, or coal in seams,
laid down over many years
as part of the earth’s ecospheres.
Deposits that mean most to me
are what, in Welsh, are ach-y-fi, (disgusting)
and are, in fact, faeces deposits,
which, in other words, are shits.
Whenever I deposit this,
there is a chance I’ll come amiss
because it comes out from my tum
instead of from my defunct bum.
A stoma is the outflow so
this is the route it has to go
and it gets caught within a bag,
which hopefully won’t leak or sag.
And though the stoma’s sin qua non (necessary)
it cannot be relied upon
to deposit what it’s got
within the bag designed for grot.
Sometimes deposits fly elsewhere,
which means that other people share,
so, I’ve no doubt the Welsh agree,
that this is simply ach-y-fi. (disgusting)
