Do ostomy patients that have had the loop closing surgery sit on the potty half the dang day long? I'm a stubborn 4-year ileostomy patient who hides things from others. I haven't learned, yet I know, trying to tough it out was only the beginning of the problems I am having now.

I pray someone can look past my terminology as I look for help. It's just me trying to hide this thing called normal. I may miss the obvious reason to avoid it being identified as an excuse.

Trying to sort through your question a bit… Are you asking about what life is like for someone who has had a loop ileostomy reversal? The success of a reversal varies widely… How much colon do you have left, if any? Reasons for surgery in the first place, age, previous surgeries, comorbidities… The specific type of reversal surgery you're looking at. I'll try to help you sort through questions, but my case hasn't been textbook as in other than the extra week in the hospital from post-op complications, I seem to have had an easier time than most the past 11 months. Not sure what the abnormal is that you've referred to in this post and another?

Short review. MAOM has helped me feel better by helping others it made me feel useful, worthy, important. It took my depression away. The more you use the site the more you get out of it.

I think you're inquiring about reversal surgery and post-op complications.

It can take a while for intestines to "wake up" and begin functioning. The rectum might leak if it was dormant for a while, which means lots of toilet time and adult diapers. Exercises targeting the rectum might help with continence.

Everyone is different. Be sure to consult an ostomy nurse or doctor if you experience pain or blood.

Hi tod0u812, how are you doing? Welcome to the site. When I had my surgery 3 years ago for a colostomy, I was given a handout about colostomies, and that was for the expert training to an ostomy. The real learning came a few days later when I had to change the appliance and pouch. I hope you recover quickly and the pain will all be a distant memory soon! Will be watching for your updates! Best wishes and take care. What is your email for me to email you about some things and talk more? Best regards.
