I had an ileostomy in March 2023 at Mayo in Jacksonville, FL. I am doing fine except for high output and low magnesium. I take two 400 mg magnesium oxide (crushed) per day and have to have an infusion of 2 mg each week. Sometimes I have to have two. If my magnesium is 1.5-1.8, I have 1 infusion, and if it is below 1.5, I have to have 2. Once it was 1.1, and I had to rush to the ER. My care team is at Mayo. This has been going on for months now, and I'm beginning to worry about infusions for life, etc. I sent a message to Mayo asking if we could change my magnesium tablets to a form that might absorb better. Has anyone experienced a problem such as this and were you able to overcome the problem? It sure is nice to be able to post comments with people who are in the same boat as me. Bless all of you.

If I was a relative newbie with an ostomy, I have no doubt that this site would be very helpful to me. The members are quick to respond to questions and issues and they are filled with experience. When I joined, I already had a lifetime with an ostomy, so I just regard it as a place to meet and communicate with other folks similarly situated. Either way, it is a good site.
