Hello everyone,
I have a colostomy (it will be 3 years by the time I go) and I am planning a rather big adventure...at least to me.  I am going to walk the Camino de Santiago Frances in Sept 09.  For those who don't know, it is an eight hundred km (500 mile) walk across the north of Spain that takes about a month.  I am allowing 6 weeks only because I want to hang out in Europe (not sure where yet...maybe Ibiza, maybe do a bit of travel through France) for the time left over.
My question is, has anyone here done the Camino or a similar type of trip where they are going to be away from home for an extended period of time?  I guess the unique part about the Camino is that essentially you are backpacking so the 6 week supply of colostomy products is going to be carried on my back.  I am concerned that I would run out plus if there is a way to not carry the entire 6 week supply (i.e. get some over there) that would be great!
Suggestions anyone??
Regards,
Bill

Congrats on your cool adventure!  I too am a globetrotter, although I usually don't actually walk.  Can you make arrangements for a  a couple of hotels where there are English speaking staff to receive some supplies or store them until you arrive? Also, a lot of Brits live in Spain.  Maybe someone who lives along your route will keep them for you, or suggest what you might do.  Have you been to the UK based website www.Ostomyland.com?  I have chatted with people from all over Europe on that site.  They are very helpful and very nice.  Meanwhile I have a friend who backpacks all over the world.  I will see if he has some suggestions and get back to you

Hello everyone!!!

It has been almost a year since joining this site. I just wanted to share. I know a lot of people get concerned about meeting someone on here. I'm not a lifer membership and I had someone initiate to take me out. I've been divorced since 2009. He lives in Chicago. I ignored the first time thinking he was joking. I live in Milwaukee. So a month later he sent me a message through this site saying he wanted to meet me. That was in April this year. I must say it was the best thing that could happen to me. We talk almost every day. We have so much in common. He comes up all the time to spend the day or weekend together. It really does make a difference when someone has an ostomy like you. Such understanding and we always have something to talk about. I want to share because sometimes people think it's hard to meet someone or they say this site doesn't work. I'm a testimony that this site does work. We are talking marriage this time next year. I will keep you posted.
