When introduce to the ostomy procedures I was more overwhelmed with trying to use the scissors that come with the kit they give you flat flange and a clear bag and that was pretty overwhelming once I found the soft bags with the cloth and the charcoal vent and the velcro everything got a lot easier except for cutting those scissors are awful I don't know who can use them and make a smooth cut all the way around I'm pretty good with stuff like that and that was almost impossible and the pre-cut ones were just not quite me I was in between an oval that's when I started cutting on myself with a punch self-made and my life ever since then has been different nobody has to ask is this good is that right if they're doing it for you one hit with the hammer maybe two if they're a little weak and it's done hope somebody will be able to use this technique understand what I'm talking about I know I use it every time I will never go back to those stupid scissors but that scissored edges look like a chainsaw had cut it out intimidating doesn't work well with one piece if I have to use a one piece I'll heat my tool and just melt through real lightly from the back side and it'll just it's done I've tried several heated let it kind of melt through or just hit it and they just hitting it and stay in Sharp awesome so much time saved so perfect every single time one piece is a shower head off a old brass and the other is an old Flashlight had several but these are the best

Not many haters it seems in this group, but I'm sure somebody will hate it. I hope somebody likes it, at least one, but I love it; that's what matters. I hope somebody can find something around the house that looks like it's theirs. No telling what it could be, but add a little edge to it. Sand it, hammer it, but be prepared to damage a lot of furniture though. I don't care, but you have to tolerate loud noises. Hit it like you mean it. I started that just because at first, I was overwhelmed, and they don't make an oval size. Over the years, it's pretty much a round stone now. Therefore, I ended up with the piece from the shower, and it's way tougher, way quicker—one hit if you mean it. Thank you, I hope that entertains you.

Hi All, If you have an " old" or recent ostomy, this is the place for you. I think I've been a member for more than 15 years, but I have had my surgery, since I was a kid of 15 ( do the math-that's more than 60 years ago). As a teen, with a new ostomy ( for Ulcerative colitis) my parents dragged me off to my first ostomy association meeting. I wasn't happy, but in the long run, it's the best thing that happened to me. I met others, older, and teens like me, adjusting to the changes. A group of us started a Young adult group, and helped each other, and even visited kids who were new to the world of ostomies. But soon I married, and moved out of state, and although made some connections with other NJ ostomates, I became pretty much isolated. Until I discovered MaO. By then, I was having a myriad of other medical issues, and my aging stoma " wasn't doing well". I received a lot of help and support from members! I was pleased that I was also back to supporting others. I met a gal on line (from Papua New Guinea) who was trying to help ostomates in her country. There is a scarcity of supplies in some other countries, and unlike the US, insurance to pay for supplies isn't available. When my son followed his "love" twenty years ago, and moved to Australia I took advantage of an opportunity to help other ostomates. On one of my first visits to Oz, I brought a suitcase full of Ostomy supplies, handed them off to an Ostomy assoc. On the Gold Coast, who then had a friend take them to PNG. They were grateful for the help, and Janet and I still write.. This is the place to be, if you need help, and it also gives you the opportunity to provide help and support to others. Feel free to write, if you'd like to chat, about things ostomy, or life in general. Best REgards to all.. Marsha

Back when I wore a flange, I used a gasket cutter punch set. It comes with various sizes up to 1 inch. You have to have a low-density cutting board to keep from dulling the edge. The handle snaps in and out of the cutter heads. If your desired hole is not perfectly round, you can heat up the cutter part and shape it to suit. Just don't forget to retemper. 👍

I just use ostomy scissors. 🤷‍♂️ There's no point in puncturing your bag, and it cuts through the sticky stuff easily.

Don't you just love DIY?

If you are lucky enough to have somebody helping you and doing it for you, one hit with a hammer, no questions, does that look right? You know it does. Sometimes you don't have all that time to scissor; usually, you mess one or two up before you get it even close.

Also, don't forget to yell out loud noises when you hit it; that comes off the movie Anchorman.

Well, you have to control the scissors and not let the scissors control you. I've never messed up cutting a hole; I just follow the line. 🤷‍♂️

There are curved blade scissors—I had to purchase mine as regular scissors were in my kit. Try turning the wafer, putting less pressure on the scissor blades. This makes for a smoother cut. It also works well with normal blade scissors. Good luck 🍀

I need an oval shape! My hubby cuts mine with the blunt end scissors, and he says he has never had an issue. I could not use those... I also have a crippled hand.
