Is anyone else experiencing leaking through the bag filter area on the Hollister Lock n Roll #8574? Leaked severely in the middle of the night; now I don't trust the product at all. I receive free bags through financial assistance, and this is one of only two products they offer, but free won't cut it if this happens. Thank you.

Hey Daystar, I've very occasionally leaked through the filter of my Hollister bag but never fully, just enough to get an unfortunate whiff. Call them, and they will have you mail your unopened boxes back to them and replace them.

Angelica- As usual, you've written another interesting post. February 5th, 2019, was my reversal surgery after having an ileo for 6 months. I'm one of those fortunate success stories. Of course, things are different now, and I still have to be careful about what and how much I eat, as I don't have a colon. At first, I was afraid to leave the house. My biggest fear was having to use a public bathroom and have the toilet not flush! Even now, when I know that I'll be in someone else's home, I won't eat anything beforehand. I read other people's stories and sometimes feel guilty for having had it so easy, not to mention that I have a significant other who is 100 percent supportive. I've gotten so much out of this website and truly feel for those of you who have it so much worse than I. But I feel it necessary to let folks hear about the success stories.

I'm a regular Hollister user, and I experienced leaking through the filter early on. I simply put a small piece of tape (3M Transpore) over the filter, and it works like a charm. The filters always get clogged up anyway and become useless. You could probably use some other kind of tape if you can't find the 3M. I would order my pouches without filters, but the pouch I like only comes with a filter.

I will never understand why they put filters on. They are supposed to let the air out, but they don't. They are supposed to keep the smell in, but they don't. If they did, there wouldn't be dozens of deodorizers sold by the ostomy companies. Thanks for the tip on the tape.

I've had a couple of filters leak, but nothing horrible. I wiped it off and went on about my day until I got home. If you're getting your bags for free, I'm not sure I'd be complaining too much; no product is 100% perfect all the time. 🤷‍♂️

Just to clarify, I have received a 3-month supply free, for which I am extremely grateful. I am also aware that when they give you a free product, you do not get to pick and choose. My sole reason for posting this was to see if others had problems with this specific product. While I am grateful and desperately want to be able to use these, if this is a continuing problem and not just a rare one, then getting them at no cost won't help at all. This was not a minor leak; it was as though the entire filter blew out. I will always be grateful for their patient assistance program.

I have used Hollister for years and never had a leak. The filter is at the top of the bag. Is it possible that the bag was too full and forcing output out of the filter?

Gentlejohn has a good point. Maybe your bag is being stretched to the max, or maybe you got a bad batch. And just for the record, whether one pays a million dollars or nothing, no one should have to suffer with a consistently leaking bag, and everyone should feel comfortable asking for help. I hope you get to the bottom of this.

I have had an ileostomy for almost 3 years and have used only a Natura two-piece Convatec system, #421462 flange, #839002 seal, and #416422 pouch. I have had only 2 leaks, and both were my fault, not the product. The cost is handled through my insurance. Instead of using scissors to cut a larger hole in the flange, I purchased a hole punch (Amazon), measured my stoma, and using the correct punch, opened the hole in the flange. I do this to several boxes at a time so I don't need to do it each time I change out my pouch, which is twice a week. The system works well for me. The, that's all folks. Terry

Hi Terry, I'm trying to figure out how you'd punch a hole on one side without it punching through to the other side of the bag! Since cut-to-fit is less expensive than pre-cut, I'm very interested!

Ah, I just saw it on Amazon. I wear a one-piece bag, so it wouldn't work. 😕

I leak through the air filter, and my bag has hardly anything in it; it's spoiling my clothes. I will try the tape.

It doesn't have to be very full in order for it to leak through the filter if you are lying down, which we spend around eight hours of our lives doing!

No, this happened at night. So while lying down, liquid moved to the top of the bag. The bag did not over-expand. I am hoping it's a one-time occurrence. I may definitely use the tape idea someone suggested; I just never thought I'd need to duct-tape the appliance, but stranger things have happened!

Honestly, I pretty much sleep in an upright position. I got used to it and won't lie down flat anymore.

My brother-in-law had a colostomy and found the filters leaked, so I never tried that type of bag. I hear there is tape to cover the filter for swimming. I use Hollister 18004, which has to be burped because I find this works for me, plus I like to see what's going on. I tried different brands and styles and came back to the Hollister brand. There are EZ-vents that you can attach to your bag that look more secure - I bought some but haven't tried them yet.
