I've had my ileostomy for 2 years. About 15-30 minutes after I eat, I have nerve pain. Oftentimes, I end up taking pain medication. I would rather not need to because of addiction.

Do the rest of you have this nerve pain? If so, how do you deal with the nerve pain?

Best meds for nerve pain are not addictive. Maybe gabapentin or duloxetine (Cymbalta) would help? These were prescribed to me for peripheral neuropathy, which is also nerve pain. Technically, the duloxetine is an antidepressant, and I gave the doctor a strange look when she suggested it. But it really seems to have helped with the pain.

I'm not sure what you mean by nerve pain. Where is the pain? In your ostomy? How do you know it's nerve pain?
