Double ostomate here: we need your help signing a petition for CMS Medicare as they will be changing the billing system for your bags…removing choice of bag. All to save money for insurance companies. Use your voice!

Don't let them hurt your ostomy to save money for insurance companies.

Very helpful

Thank you for clueing me in on this. I have been very happy with Coloplast supplies. The thought of having that taken away from me is terrible.

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

They are trying to do this under our noses and trying to slip it through by giving us only a month to respond. Go on the website, share your story, and then also reach out to your congressman or federal senator and let them know that CMS needs to keep things the way they are and allow us choice in the bags that we use. It could really harm and hurt patients.

Beachboy, what, if anything, can we do? Who would we reach out to? Thoughts?

Actually, that's not true. Insurance companies follow Medicare and CMS guidelines. So they tend to lobby Medicare and CMS to change their rules and regulations to benefit themselves because they know they can change all of their codes and billing to follow Medicare because that's what they do. It's very well documented by multiple doctors that Medicare guidelines also get copied by all the insurance companies. Yes, re-categorizing, but it changes everything.

The United Ostomy Association has sent out emails to everyone to write a letter. All you have to do is click this link, and they will send it there against this proposal because they know it only doesn't affect Medicare patients. It also affects all insurance companies because the insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines.

United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) strongly opposes this proposal.

True that, my Hollister appliances of 30 years were just canceled! They told me that the manufacturer couldn't maintain the manufacturing equipment.

For some folks in Canada, with more complicated circumstances, it can be easier to receive “maid” assistance than government medical assistance and medications, probably down to the almighty dollar as always. We still have terrific coverage for the time being compared to so many nations; I am grateful, but the government is certainly complicating the system, almost undermining it to convince the population that a private medical system is “better.” What a joke, but here in Canada, our “liberal leadership” will be our undoing. We couldn't afford another liberal government, but we got one anyway.
