I am considering a trip to China and wonder if anyone can share experiences.  I am concerned about sanitary conditions and the availability of appropriate toilet facilities for irrigation.
Thanks!

Hi Pamsue, I have visited China 3 times, it is truly wonderful and awe inspiring. I stayed in modern hotels, of course the bathroom facilities were all one would expect from a 5 star hotel.
It's the day trips to places of interest that are the problem, I was forewarned to always carry toilet tissue and be prepared for a hole in the floor, without the privacy of doors.

I suggest you do whatever in your hotel and be ready for just about anything  anywhere else.

Apart from all that, well worth the visit.

Regards Angela.

When I found this web site, I didn't think its name had anything to do with actually meeting an ostomate but I later learned there were some folks who did meet and develop relationships. How good is that? That wasn't my intention. I definitely didn't want anyone to meet me. I felt broken and wasn't prepared to express those feelings. I thought it was a place where ostomates wrote about themselves, posed questions, shared thoughts, told jokes and, sometimes, just vented. I thought of it as a community of folks with similar interests and various degrees of experience. Mostly I found some of the most caring, selfless, wise and understanding people I ever imagined. I was so impressed with some of the writings; not because of their literary value but the way in which they addressed such a very complex environment. I read hundreds of exchanges and admired the way folks cared for each other. I became hopeful with my own situation and looked forward to the next day's offerings. Certainly some contributors stood out with their experience or particular skills in addressing some things but it seemed like a total effort with synergistic results. I felt blessed to have found this site. I still do.

Hi there, I spent a month in China, 3 weeks in Beijing and a week in Chengdu, both have McDonalds and Starbucks on every corner, you will find a western toilet there.  Make sure when booking your hotel you ask specifically for a western toilet, and careful with the amount of toliet paper you try to flush their infrastructure is not what we have in the west have and you will clog the toilet

and absolutely carry your own kleenex or toliet paper with you.  Have a wonderful trip. China is amazing.

Hi Pam Sue ,

I have travelled to Bejing and spent twoo weeks there doing all the sight seeing like the Great Wall , For Bidden city etc and did not find any problem . I have travelled all over Asia and actually live between Colombo Sri Lanka & Thailand . I am from Scotland married to a Sri Lankan and have had my Ileostomy for 35 yrs and travelled all over the world with it and the last 20 yrs being stationed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi . The only thing that one has to make sure is that you always have toilet paper or kleenex with you as some out lying areas dont have anything.

The other thing that did affect me sometimes was the the extreme heat and if the humidity was very high as it at times it did  have a affect on the sealing of the bag as your body temperature rises and sweating it softens the seal and there was a risk of leakage but that was in extreme cases where the outside temp was over 50 Degrees Celcius and of course just make sure you carry plenty of supplies  enjoy your trip you will love it China is a fasinating place and very much understated . But English is a problem in places
