Hello Pam., thank you for your question., the stoma is highly vascular which is why a healthy stoma is rich in colour (red). As there is such a good blood flow the slightest knock from your finger or the wipe as you clean it will cause it to bleed. However I wouldn't expect much blood loss when it does bleed,  certainly not enough to sprinkle the inside of your bag. If you still have stitches in, as they pull to fall out it is normal to have a little more blood. First what I'd do is be wary of what pressure you may be applying to the stoma, if not there is no harm in letting your stoma nurse take a look. I hope the problem is resolved soon,  blessings to you and yours.

I’m usually not one for “support groups” and loathe whatever the hell they call Facebook these days.
This site has literally been a lifesaver because of its members, part support group, part dad jokes, part story telling, mostly friendship and if people don’t agree they just keep it to themselves. I honestly reminds me of the old days and just plain old polite society, it helps me more than I can explain. Thank you to everyone that allows me to engage with them and to all the members that help other members!

Pam, in addition to what daisyy has said, be very gentle wiping around your stoma.  I use a wet paper towel (with just warm water) and carefully dab around the stoma, barely touching it.

Also, be aware that if you eat beets or some other red food or drink red Gatorade, you'll get red poop that will look like blood.  Hopefully you're not drinking soda, red or any other, as that can make lots of gas in your bag.
