Hello. I am brand new here.  I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself.  I had a colostomy with radical hysterectomy in November 2017 ( in one surgery).  Even thought it's been 10 months I am struggling with challenges, but am grateful for the surgery that saved my life. I wanted to find a place I could share, vent, offer support and learn.  As a cancer survivor, I have the will to endure no matter what.  God bless you all. Never forget you are a warrior.

Did you have your surgery because of cancer? I had a similar but less invasive surgery just three weeks ago.

I’d love to hear more about your journey!

This group has been my go-to during my loneliest hours whenever I've had a "bag blowout" at 3am and there was no one else in the world to talk to.

Because it's a global community, there's always someone here to lend an ear, provide advice, and just hold my hand if that's all I need.

Sure, there's also a lot of camaraderie, fun topics, and laughs, but the main reason I come here is for the total acceptance I get from the members. No one else on the planet could possibly "get" what I'm going through, not even my loving husband or supportive family.

The "Meet an Ostomate" forum is definitely a one-of-a-kind family, which I am very proud to belong to.

Hello chesnut and Welcome to this site. Feel free to vent all you want as I'm sure there will be people on here who will empathise. I have found that communicating with people who instantly understand what we go through is like having a group of close friends whom you can share those things which other's, who might be closer physically, don't really understand.

Best wishes

Hi chestnut,

A big welcome from me as well. Thanks for taking the time to tell us a bit about yourself. There is a ton of information on this site. Take a look around or just ask away, we're here for each other.

No, I did not have cancer, but diverticulitis with an abscess and the infection attached to my ovary and fallopian tube, which caused bleeding. I was extremely ill (worse than I ever remember) and emergency surgery was performed. Ten months later, I have mastered a lot; yet still have complications (a peristomal hernia). It has been a long road and I am tired. Thanks for asking, Stephanie, and thank you for the warm welcome, all.
