Best bag for hernia or bulge? Hollister bag keeps breaking off.

If you're dealing with an ostomy and have a parastomal hernia or bulge, you might find that your current pouching system isn't staying in place as securely as you'd like. This can be particularly frustrating if you're using a Hollister bag and it keeps popping off. Here are some suggestions to help you find a more secure solution:

1. Consider adding support by wearing an ostomy belt or a dedicated hernia support belt around the clock. Many people find that this helps keep the wafer and pouch flat against the body, extending the wear time to a week or more.

2. Look into using a convex or "inverted" flange designed specifically for hernias:
- ConvaTec offers an inverted, cone-shaped flange for hernias. You can contact them to request samples.
- Hollister has a two-piece option with pouch 18114 and convex wafer 14404.
- Coloplast offers the SenSura Mio one-piece convex system, which can be paired with Brava Elastic Barrier Strips for added security.

3. To improve the seal of your pouching system:
- Use Hollister Adapt Barrier Rings or Adapt Barrier Strips. Some people mold these strips into custom rings for a better fit.
- Consider using Hollister Adapt 7730 spray adhesive on any wafer to increase its stickiness.
- Make sure the hole in the wafer is only 1/8 inch larger than your stoma. Shave any hair around the stoma area and use the crusting technique (a combination of stoma powder and skin-prep wipes) on irritated skin to protect it.

4. It's a good idea to consult with an ostomy nurse. They can provide a personalized assessment of your stoma's size and shape, the condition of your skin, and help you find the right products for your needs.

5. Before committing to a new product, request samples from companies like Hollister, Coloplast, and ConvaTec. This way, you can try out products specifically designed for hernias or bulges without purchasing them in bulk.
